Simple Cheese Crisps Ingredients:

Shredded Parmesan Cheese: while this could be mated with the grated parmesan, I like the texture and look of using the shredded. Also know that if you shred your own, it will cut the carbs even lower as they add a filler to the pre-shredded cheeses.

Shredded Cheddar Cheese: we used cheddar but you could use other cheeses as well. Such as Monterey jack, pepper jack, mozzarella, and so on.

Italian Seasoning (optional): this one is totally optional but adds a ton of flavor. You could also use other herbs and spices to change up the flavor.

How To Make Keto Cheese Crisps:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Line your baking sheet(s) with parchment and set aside.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the shredded cheeses and mix to combine.
  3. Using a teaspoon, measure out even-sized mounds of the cheese and place at least 3 inches apart on your prepared baking sheets.
  4. Cook in the preheated oven for about 6 minutes – the cheese should be melted and the edges slightly browned. Watch carefully as the time gets close – they can go from slightly browned to burnt very quickly.
  5. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with the Italian seasoning, if desired.
  6. Allow to cool to harden and serve.

Storage: Cheese crisps can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.

Important Teaching Tips:

Watch Closely: Due to variations in oven temperatures and cheese moisture content, cooking times can vary. Keep a close eye on them, especially the first time you make them.

Bake Longer: If you like that dark cheese edge on things like pizza, you may want to bake your crisps a little longer to get that darker color with extra flavor.

Cooling Time: Let them cool completely on the baking sheet for crisps that are easier to remove and have a firmer texture.

Microwave Option: For a quick snack, you can also make these in the microwave. Place a few cheese mounds on a piece of parchment paper on a microwave-safe plate and cook on high for about 1-2 minutes or until they are crispy. Microwave times may vary.

Serving Suggestions & Variations:

There are lots of different ways you can serve these. There are also endless options to change it up. You could even do a few different batches with different flavors.

  • As a Snack: Enjoy these keto cheese crisps on their own as a crunchy, satisfying snack.
  • With Salad: Crumble them over a fresh salad for added texture and a cheesy flavor.
  • Soup Topping: Use them as a gluten-free alternative to croutons in your favorite soup.
  • With Dips: Serve alongside guacamole, salsa, or a creamy dip for a delightful contrast in textures.
  • Charcuterie Boards: Add them to a keto-friendly charcuterie board along with meats, nuts, olives, and low-carb vegetables for an appetizing array.

Variation Ideas:

You can change up the flavor by using different cheeses as well as different seasonings. We are sharing a few ideas to get you started.

  • Mix it Up: Experiment with different types of cheese. Aged cheeses like Parmesan, Asiago, or aged Cheddar can offer a sharper taste.
  • Spicy Version: Add a sprinkle of crushed red pepper flakes to the cheese mixture before baking for a spicy kick.
  • Herb Crisps: Instead of Italian seasoning, try using rosemary, thyme, or oregano for a different herbal note.
  • Garlic Parmesan: Add garlic powder to the cheese mixture before baking, and pair with Parmesan for a classic flavor combination.
  • Shapes and Sizes: Use a smaller amount of cheese for each crisp to create bite-sized snacks perfect for topping small appetizers.
  • Large Rounds: Make larger crisps to use as a base for mini keto pizzas or tostadas.
  • Seedy Crunch: Sprinkle some sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or chia seeds on the cheese before baking for an added crunch and a nutritional boost.
  • Everything Bagel: If you are an everything bagel fan you can use a little of that season to add flavor to these cheese crisps.
  • Nutritional Yeast: For an extra cheesy flavor with a hint of umami, sprinkle some nutritional yeast over the crisps just after baking. This is especially great for those who enjoy a more complex flavor profile.
  • Loaded Crisps: Once baked and while still warm, add a small dollop of sour cream and a slice of jalapeño, or top with a piece of cooked bacon and avocado for a loaded crisp experience.

Experimenting with different cheeses and seasonings can lead to discovering your personal favorite combination. Enjoy crafting your perfect keto cheese crisp!
